Are you aware of the increased threat of ID theft?
While consumers in the UK have been concentrating on their own finances it would appear that a number have taken their eye off the ball with regards to ID theft. It is common knowledge amongst the authorities that ID theft is more prevalent than ever during a recession, something which has yet again materialised over the last few months. What precautions do you take with regards to ID theft?
While a number of people in the UK have acquired portable shredding machines to ensure that all of their private documents are destroyed correctly, a number of people still seem to be happy placing their highly confidential information in a simple litter bin. It is vital that any information which could prove useful to ID thieves should be disposed of correctly and promptly. In many cases your identity and your personal details can prove more financially lucrative than stealing equipment and goods from your home.
Too many people throughout the UK believe it will "never happen to them" and appear to be carrying on as normal leaving themselves wide open to possible ID theft and the repercussions that may follow. If you take sufficient action to protect your private details and private information you should be covered by various banking and credit card insurance plans. However, there may come a point in the near future when financial institutions will demand a more cautious approach and attempt to shift the blame and potential liability to customers.
