Is this the end of the MPs expenses saga?

As a multi-party agreement to repay objectionable expenses comes into force there are hopes that a line has now been drawn under the expenses debacle of UK MPs. While the Daily Telegraph is still holding back a number of hard-hitting stories which will be released over the days and weeks to come it would appear that the situation may have peaked although it won't go away for some time yet.

The Freedom of Information Act has literally opened a can of worms for UK MPs who had always assumed that their expense claims would never see the light of day. What began as an innocuous request for a copy of MPs expenses has quite literally grown into a story which could eventually bring down the UK government and cause significant damage to the UK political scene. It will be interesting to see how the public react to the move seen today, with literally thousands of pounds to be repaid back to the taxpayer, and how the opinion polls move over the next few days.

While traditionally it is the government of the day who suffer the greatest backlash after such revelations, there is no doubt that all parties have been scarred by the saga. Even though a number of MPs, one of which is David Cameron, have come out of the situation relatively unscathed there are many big names and big hitters who have been holed below the waterline.
