MPs expected to repay hundreds of thousands of pounds of expenses

As the MP's expenses saga continues to roll on it has been revealed over the last 24 hours that literally hundreds of thousands of pounds in expenses will be repaid to the UK taxpayer. Indeed, one Labour MP has agreed to repay over £40,000 in expenses which have caused significant unrest in his constituency. As a consequence, more and more MPs are expected to repay significant expenses which, while haven broken no rules, have been frowned upon by the UK public.

However, despite the fact that we seem to be nearing an end game in relation to the expenses system, the three main parties in the UK are still unable to agree the best way forward and specific terms. David Cameron stole a march on the UK government after announcing that those who refuse to repay suspect expenses would be expelled from the Conservative party, to which Gordon Brown replied with yet another committee and another investigation into the system.

While no political party has come out of the expenses debate undamaged, there is no doubt that David Cameron's leadership qualities are impressing more and more of the UK population which could be reflected in future voting patterns.
