Have you noticed the price of petrol creeping higher?
With MPs expenses, the banking system and the UK economy grabbing headlines day after day after day it is easy to have missed the fact that UK motorists are again suffering at the hands of the oil giants and the UK government. The price of petrol has been creeping higher for some time and despite the likes of Tesco attempting to keep the price under one pound a litre (currently 99.9p) many forecourts are charging in excess of one pound a litre.
When you consider the continuing increase in road tax, insurance premiums and now the price of petrol, it would seem that UK motorists are again being hit from all angles. The UK government recently brought in yet another tax rise in the price of petrol which has often been used to fill various black holes in the UK government budget. While analysts are at odds about the future direction of the price of oil and the price of petrol in the UK it would seem there is significant short-term pressure on the upside and motorists could yet feel more pain in their pockets.
It is always worth delving further into the small print when the UK government announce a budget as since the start of time there have always been surprises and shocks when the full details finally emerge.
