When will the MPs expenses saga end?
Despite the fact that a number of MPs have been exposed in relation to the MP's expenses saga the situation continues this weekend with yet more startling revelation. Amongst them are claims for a duck island, mortgages which did not exist, second homes just a few miles from their main residence and other similar allegations and the list just goes on and on.
Many now believe it is time to draw a line under the saga as the system is about to be amended and each day brings potentially new resignations and potential new criminal investigations. The problem is that it would appear that so many MPs have become embroiled in the saga, under the understanding that their expense would never be revealed, and the claims just become ever more bizarre. The public have now turned against the UK political scene although even the public are now growing tired of yet more revelations.
Many believe the next stage will be criminal investigations by the authorities and potential fines, paybacks and then maybe the possibility of a criminal record. Quite how this will pan out in the short to medium term remains to be seen but the public are now sickened by the number of revelations and thoughts are now turning to action against the alleged perpetrators.
