The growing pet crisis in the UK
While many areas of society are suffering as the UK recession continues to bite it is becoming ever more apparent that dogs and cats are also suffering along with other common UK pets. It appears that many in the UK are now struggling not only to look after themselves but also their pets. As more and more people lose their homes and are forced to move into new housing the problem is becoming more common with literally hundreds if not thousands of dogs and cats left to fend for themselves.
Even though the UK has so for many years been a country of "pet lovers" unfortunately many families are finding it difficult to make ends meet. The RSPCA and similar organisations are reporting a significant increase in strays but with their own funding under real pressure they are not always able to do what they would like. Many are concerned that the problem could get worse in the short term before it gets any better and we could see many well loved family pets left to fend for themselves on the streets of the UK.
The UK recession certainly has a lot to answer for with many people across the country being forced to take action which they would never have considered in the past.

With a blatant disregard to the Labour Party manifesto of 2005, which promised no income tax rises within this Parliament, Alistair Darling yesterday announced an increase in the planned 45% tax rate up to 50% for those earning in excess of £150,000 a year.
