Simple ways to save money : Claim your benefits
It is well known that there are literally hundreds of millions of pounds of benefits which go unclaimed each and every year in the UK. These may range from child benefit payments to unemployment benefit, from heating allowance to attendance allowances. Historically there has been a certain stigma attached to "benefit Britain" with many people determined to stand on their own 2 feet, but these benefit systems are there for a reason.
While there is no doubt that a number of people in the UK are very borderline with regards to their various claims for benefits, there are significantly more people who do require short-term assistance and are more than happy to pay their way once back on their feet. Even now the stigma has reduced somewhat as the UK recession has grabbed hold, there are still literally hundreds of thousands of people each and every year who refuse to claim benefits to which they are entitled.
It is worth remembering that it is you, the UK taxpayer, who actually funds these various benefit systems as a potential savings plan for more difficult times. What is more natural than to dip into your emergency fund when required? Why should you restrict your own access to potentially life-saving funds because of your ego?
