Benefits, benefits, benefits
Despite the fact that the UK social security budget takes one of the larger slices of the taxpayer income cake it seems that many people are too proud to claim benefits as and when required. The last 18 months have shown that despite significant job losses many people are still too proud to claim the dole, housing benefit and other simple benefits which can reduce the pressure of living under a financial cloud.
While nobody is suggesting anybody should claim benefits to which they are not entitled, or claim benefits for a prolonged period of time, it is worth remembering that the vast majority of UK workers have paid significant tax income into the system and now is effectively payback time. Do not be concerned about any potential stigma attached to benefits, because this is long gone, and think more about your own financial situation and the potential lifestyle of your family.
More and more benefits are being means tested, which will ultimately see those in greater need of assistance receive more sympathetic advice, because despite various anti-fraud systems within the UK social security service fraudulent activity each year amounts to billions of pounds. Do not be ashamed to claim benefits to which you are entitled, do not be ashamed to admit you are living on benefits because ultimately what else can you do?
