UK beggars earning up to £200 a day
UK beggars in some of the more upmarket areas of the UK are known to be earning up to £200 a night which equates to a £73,000 a year salary, paid free of tax. UK police have drawn attention to so-called "professional beggars" who crowd the streets in many towns and cities in the UK, catching the attention of passers-by and ultimately making a very good living.
We have seen instances in the past of beggars seen driving away in top of range vehicles and while there is nothing illegal about begging, these professional beggars, many of which already have decent incomes, are basically taking money from the mouths of those in need. Whether the UK government and the police will introduce some kind of law against "professional beggars" remains to be seen because ultimately it can be very difficult to differentiate between a "genuine beggar" and a professional.
As you might have guessed, there has been a significant increase in the number of street beggars up and down the UK, many of which are genuine, as the UK recession continues to cause major upheaval in many homes. However, there is a massive difference between professional beggars and those who are genuinely short of funds and struggling to survive.
