Six local authorities charged with parking ticket violations
Which? magazine has confirmed, via a Freedom of Information request, that six local authority councils in the UK appear to have broken UK government guidelines regarding parking tickets issued by their wardens. Government guidelines clearly state that no quotas should be set and there should be no expectations of the amount of parking tickets and penalty notices to be served. However, it seems that more and more UK local authorities are looking at the parking ticket and parking penalty tool as an easy way to increase their annual budgets.
The revelations also include the fact that a number of healthcare trust up and down the country are bringing in upwards of £1 million a year in parking fees from hospital visitors. However, on the downside it is also believed that a number of healthcare trusts in the UK are actually running their car parks at a loss and using their healthcare budget to subsidise these loss-making activities.
The fact is that the UK has become one of the hot spots of the world with regards to speeding cameras which bring in millions of pounds a year for UK local authorities and the UK government. Guidelines have been very vague over the years with regards to quotas and targets but the Which? magazine Freedom of Information request has gone a long way to clarifying the situation. UK motorists are amongst the most heavily penalised in the world!
