Are you planning on a lottery win to bail you out?
A survey today suggests that a massive 24% of people in Scotland are looking towards a national lottery win to bail themselves out of their current financial situation. This is a significant increase on the traditional level of lottery dependence and when you consider the odds are over 14,000,000 to one that you will hit the big jackpot this really is a shot in the dark!
While there are obviously smaller prizes to be won on the national lottery and other European lotteries there is no doubt that more people are gambling money which potentially could go towards paying off the debts. This is a typical reaction to difficult financial times and one which we have seen over and over again. However, the main problem is that very often it is those who are unable to cover their own outgoings who are tempted to increase their gambling habits. While the idea of hitting the jackpot and paying off all your debts, with more left over to spend, is obviously an excellent thought, in the cold light of day is it really worth the risk?
When you take a look at the lottery system there are very few real barriers to entry for those looking to acquire a ticket, allowing many people to spend money, which could be used elsewhere, chasing that final big win!
