Is Tesco experimenting with prices?
There is speculation in the supermarket sector that Tesco has been experimenting with price increases across a host of different products. There would appear to be evidence that certain products have increased gradually in price as the company looks to find a level at which demand is maintained and profitability is improved. Despite no official comment from the company the rumours continue to grow and indeed more and more people are stepping forward with their own evidence from the shop floor.
This comes at a time when UK consumers have more than ever been looking for bargains and deals across the UK supermarket sector. It is also noticeable that Tesco has of late fallen behind other leading supermarkets with regards to recent sales expansion. Has the rumoured price experiment backfired? Will Tesco return to the top in the short term?
There's no doubt that Tesco is the strongest supermarket company in the UK and while short-term performance may well be at a lower level compared to other companies, the long-term situation and position of the group remains relatively unchanged. This is a company which attracts millions upon millions of customers each and every day and is looking to introduce new services and new products on a regular basis. Tesco is the most proactive and reactive company in the UK and its domination of the UK supermarket sector is likely to continue for some time to come.
