British Gas doubles boiler scrappage scheme offer
Despite the fact that the UK government has introduced a boiler scrappage scheme which will see up to £400 off the cost of a new boiler system, British Gas has gone one better by matching the UK government's offer. So in effect, British Gas customers could be in for a £800 reduction on the cost of a new boiler simply by scrapping their old and potentially inefficient boiler for a more up-to-date system.
In many ways this is a win-win situation because not only will customers receive a discount on a new boiler system but many of the systems available today are up to 30% more efficient than those of yesteryear. As a consequence the environment will benefit, consumers will receive a one-off discount and many will feel the benefit in their pockets, with up to £235 off the cost of their annual gas bill. That is before we even take into account the potential health risks associated with many old boiler systems which have become unstable and potentially unsafe over the years.
The success of the car scrappage scheme appears to have been the overriding factor behind introduction of the boiler scrappage scheme which should prove to be very popular once consumers are aware of the significant benefits.
