Brits discounting discount savings
Around 13 million British people are losing money because they are not taking advantage of discounts offered to them by energy suppliers, new research has shown. According to uSwitch, some £830 million is wasted by Brits not taking up special discount offers on their energy bills. It is calculated that customers could cut their bills by as much as £142 per year if they took up discounted plans and methods of payment. While 4.2 million people are seeing a collective £42 million go up in smoke by failing to switch to dual fuel, 2.4 million are wasting around £174 million by refusing to pay by direct debit. Just over half of all households are wasting money on expensive standard plans by not shopping around to find a cheaper online plan. Geoff Slaughter, energy manager at uSwitch.com, commented: "If consumers hoped the energy price war would result in chunky reductions in household bills then they look set to be sorely disappointed. "Prices have only fallen by £84 and, with no further cuts on the near horizon, the best chance that consumers now have of seeing their bills go down is by taking advantage of the discounts being offered by suppliers."

As we mentioned yesterday, the chief executive of Cadbury, Todd Stitzer, has become embroiled in something of a slanging match with Merrill Lynch over reported comments made at a recent conference.
