Fuel Delivery Strike Starts To Hit Home

While the ongoing industrial action by delivery drivers used to ferry fuel to Shell garages across the UK moves into its second day, there are real concerns that the strike action will be repeated next week as Unions try to force the hand of the delivery companies involved. However, there are many who believe that action is aimed at Shell rather than the companies which are employed by Shell to deliver the fuel, with a number of placards at picket lines across the UK blaming Shell for the situation.

Initially there were no signs of panic buying across the country, but even Shell has suggested that this may change over the weekend with many looking to ‘fill up’ for next week. Gordon Brown must be kicking himself over the timing of the action which has taken away much of his thunder in the aftermath of the resignation of a senior Conservative MP.

Many of the opposition parties are already highlighting the close links between the Labour Party and the Unions, who for decades have supplied the main funding to the party. There is real concern in the Labour ranks that continued action by a number of Unions on a number of fronts will further turn the UK public against the Party, with very little that can actually do to prevent this.
