Pay Deal Announced For Fuel Delivery Drivers

Good news this evening with confirmation that the dispute between the Unite Union, Hoyer UK and Suckling Transport has been resolved with the Union accepting an undisclosed pay offer from the delivery firms. This brings to an end what could have been a very costly and crippling series of strikes, with more industrial action planned for this weekend. It has taken a massive effort from Shell to ensure that the majority of their 400 sites across the country are now full again, but there are still reports of some shortages.

It is not clear at this moment in time whether Shell stepped into the fray with some extra funding for the settlement but there are signs of government involvement in this resolution. The UK government had already been forced to scrap anti-competition laws for the industry in the light of the recent action, allowing suppliers to exchange information and ensure that as many areas of the country were able to support demand.

No doubt we will hear more detail about the agreement over the next few days but for now both businesses and consumers can breathe a sigh of relief. However, will drivers forget those garages which pushed the price of fuel up to a massive £9 a gallon?
