Are We Approaching The Age Of Public Transport?

As the price of oil, and consequently fuel, continues to spiral higher in the UK and car taxes look set to rise again there is speculation that the main boom area of the future will be pubic transport companies. When you also take into account the growing number of green taxes hitting the UK motorist, slowly but surely it looks as though we are all being pushed towards public transport. But will it work?

One of the main problems with public transport has always been the fact that the companies that run our bus and train services need the customers before they can invest in services, but customers want to see improvements before they use public transport – the classic chicken and the egg situation. However, it seems as though the time has come for many UK motorists to consider either using their vehicles less or actually dumping their cars altogether.

It is a frightening thought to think that tomorrow you may need to depend on your local public transport network to get to work, but it is soon to be a reality for many. This may be the only real chance the transport companies get to impress the public because as and when the price of fuel falls to lower levels, if the public transport network has not improved, we may see many returning back to their cars.
