Is The UK Energy Program In Chaos

News that the takeover of British Energy by French outfit EDF has fallen by the way has not only led to disappointment amongst the vast number of shareholders but cast the UK energy program into chaos. While nuclear energy has courted much controversy it seems to be a path which has been chosen by the UK government, but who will fund the program now?

EDF had indicated a willingness to investment large amounts of money into the UK nuclear sector prior to the collapse of the deal and while plans are afoot to revive the takeover it seems a forlorn hope. The UK government has not been able to deliver the investment funding required for the future, preferring to bring in the private sector - with EDF seemingly a kingpin for the development of the UK's nuclear facilities.

As the cost of traditional energy supplies continues to rise, the investment into environmentally friendly energy has grown but ultimately this will not be able to support the majority of the UK's power needs now and in the future. It seems as though a deal will need to be reached in order to bring in a third party to fund British Energy for the future whether through a partnership arrangement or a takeover similar to the EFD arrangement which ultimately failed.
