E.ON announces price rises

Gas prices are to be put up by 26 per cent and electricity by 16 per cent for E.ON customers, the firm has announced.High wholesale energy costs were blamed by the provider for the hikes, which come into effect tomorrow. The move follows similar rises imposed by EDF and market leaders British Gas - who hiked their own gas costs by 35 per cent.Graham Bartlett, a managing director at E.ON, said: "I'm very aware of the effect that the announcement will have on our customers and I recognise that this is a very tough time for everyone."This was not an easy decision to make and we've tried to keep these increases as low as possible while protecting as many of our customers as we can."When the price rises are enforced, duel fuel customers of E.ON will see their annual energy costs go up by £227, or 22 per cent. They are set to pay £1,226 a year.
