Did Barack Obama Inspire Labour MPs To Call For Energy Windfall Tax?
While the Unions and a number of backbenchers continue their crusade to force Gordon Brown to impose a windfall tax on the energy companies it looks as though they may have the backing of US Presidential candidate Barack Obama. It seems that a number of MPs may have picked up on the president in waiting's idea and pumped up the pressure on Gordon Brown.
However, despite growing calls from Labour paymasters and supporters up and down the country it seems that Gordon Brown is set against such a move. The problem he now has is that if he changes his mind and gives in to MPs demands he will be seen as weak but if he ignores their demands he will be seen as out of touch with the people of the UK. So what can he do?
As we covered on this site earlier this week he may have to find an alternative way to 'tax' the energy companies with a possible pollution tax in the offing. While Gordon Brown was once the darling of the Labour Party it seems that his presence is causing much irritation amongst more and more Labour supporters.
