Is Football Moving Out of Reach Of The Masses?

After news that an Arab billionaire (quoted in some papers as worth up to one trillion dollars) has taken over the helm at Manchester City Football Club it looks as though the UK Premiership is set to come under attack from the oil rich playboys of the Middle East. But will this move football away from the masses? Will it change the game for ever?

The impending takeover of Manchester City gave the club the power to bid up to £150 million pounds for a number of players as the transfer deadline closed last night and while they were only successful with one player, this was a £30 million plus purchase of Robinho - widely regarded as the best player in the world at the moment. But who will pay for this?

While many of these rich playboys, such as Abramovich at Chelsea, have literally changed these clubs overnight how long will they stay and who will pay for the massive wages which players are being offered to come to England?

Once these playboys lose interest in the game they will move on and possibly leave clubs saddled with massive debts. A recent glimpse at the Chelsea report and account shows that the Club owes owner Abramovich £500 million. Football has been a part of UK culture for decades but slowly the fan on the street is being priced out of the picture in favour of the larger corporate income streams.
