Gordon wants to help you
News that the PM Gordon Brown has again promised help for those who are suffering from high energy costs has hit the headlines. Despite a number of false starts he has promised that he will be looking at measures to cut back on energy consumption and allow people to find the best tariffs for their needs. Mmmm, seems as though we have heard this all before Mr Brown, so what is new?
As we mentioned in a post a short while back, Gordon Brown is set to announce a flood of offers to help you insulate your home, use energy efficient light bulbs and find the best tariffs. So if the money is there to make these investments for the longer term, why is there no money in the short term to put towards energy bills NOW?
This is the political equivalent of kicking a football into the long grass where it will be forgotten and lost in the surroundings. Gordon Brown has been warned by the Unions that he needs to instigate a windfall tax, he has been advised that strikes are inevitable if the UK public are not catered for and he has been told that the large corporations must pay. But why?
Let us not forget the 17.5% VAT charge added to your energy bill, let us not forget the tax incurred by the energy companies (on higher turnover) and let us not forget how much money the authorities have wasted on pointless 'green issues'. Gordon has received the money already but he is not prepared to give it back - well not until there is an election pending!
