When is a pensioner not a pensioner Mr Brown?
News has leaked that Gordon Brown's much hyped £1 billion energy package, which was supposed to help pensioners as well as those on low income, will only be available to those over 70 years of age or in some cases those who are on benefits. A quick phone call to the government manned helpline has confirmed the situation with staff confirming that 'Gordon Brown made a mistake' when he suggested it would be available to ALL pensioners.
As with so many government policies, not just the Labour Party to be fair, the devil is in the detail and after announcing the package in a blaze of glory the whole issue is now starting to unravel at an alarming pace. The Conservative Party has taken the lead with a number of attacks on the government and the fact that so much was promised but yet again so little has been delivered.
It was also a day of excitement within government with a junior minister sacked from office after she dared to suggest that it was now time for a leadership challenge. Gordon Brown has now had his last throw of the dice and been seen to be liberal with the truth yet again. If it was not so serious it would be comical....
