Are Green issues just for the boom times?
You may have noticed that over the last few months we have seen less and less green issues hitting the headlines, no news on new green taxes and a distinct lack of interest from the public. This now begs the question as to whether green issues are just a back handed tax for the boom times or has the consumer simply fallen out of love with the environment.
When you consider the situation in detail it would be easy to assume that green issues are only for the boom times, when money is flush and green taxes can be introduced for 'our benefit'. Surely the environment, the level of the sea and the icebergs in the Arctic are still in need of our help as much as they were in the boom times?
In many ways this lack of green issues even being mentioned in political circles really does speak volumes for the real reasons behind the taxes. Money for the Treasury and a way to refloat the public purse, which now seems to have more holes than a string vest!
However, just wait until the economy picks up and we start to see more and more green taxes brought back to the table and introduced with very little debate.
