CSA due for serious overhaul
The Child support agency, which has been the worst performing government department for some time, is undergoing a serious revamp which will allow more flexibility for the parties involved and also lead to an ultimately more generous settlement. As well as increased accountability for the Department there are also immediate plans to increase the amount of maintenance a child carer is able to receive before any tax deductions.
The ability for separated couples to arrange their own financial agreements will be brought to the headlines although the only serious drawback is the fact that these agreements are not enforceable by law if either party breaks them. The subject of child support has been something of a thorn in the government side for some time with literally billions upon billions of pounds wasted on systems which did not work and regulations which were not adhered to by many.
Historically it seems as though those parents capable and willing to contribute to the support of their children have paid a much higher price than so-called absent fathers and in many ways have been targeted more aggressively. This is the latest in a number of changes the government have announced regarding social service payments and child-support although whether they work remains to be seen.
