Is public transport becoming a more viable option?

As public transport usage figures continue to rise in light of the increased cost of running a motor vehicle in the UK there is a growing opinion that the age of public transport as a major element of society is on the way back. The recent spike in the price of petrol has alerted many of the risks of owning and running a vehicle in the UK and finally this seems to be assisting the public transport arena.

Since the denationalisation of the various transport networks in the UK there has been a need for higher usage numbers before companies were able to invest substantial amounts in their services. Thankfully, now that we are seeing increased usage of the various UK networks there is a feeling that we are on an upward spiral which will see increased income and increased investment in the sector as a whole.

As the sector continues to expand we will see areas which were not covered added to the network, which will bring in more and more customers, and offer more services and destinations to users. However, it will be interesting to see whether prices are reduced as user numbers increase.
