E.ON cuts bills for electricity customers

Energy supplier E.ON has reduced some of its customer bills, after the results of an industry-wide investigation were released.Ofgem said in October that 4.3 million householders who were not connected to mains gas and did not use a "dual fuel" service from their provider could be overcharged by as much as £55 a year. This is due to them not having access to discounts offered to "dual fuel" customers."[We have] given the industry notice to end practices that are failing some customers, and to deliver the full benefits of competition to the entire market," Ofgem said in its report. For its part, E.ON has announced that customers who only use electricity from them will have £14 taken off their annual bills.Areas affected are the east and north-west of England, along with the east Midlands.Graham Bartlett, managing director of E.ON's retail business, said: "We, like Ofgem, saw that our electricity customers who have no mains gas are simply not able to get some of our best deals."
