Britons 'unprepared for job loss'
A large proportion of Britons have few contingency plans in place if they lose their job, MoneyExpert.com has revealed.According to the financial website, 30 per cent would be in serious difficulties with their essential costs within two months of being made redundant. Moreover, 15 per cent would be in trouble before a month. The figures were released in the wake of new official unemployment statistics from the government, showing that the jobless total had risen to an eight-year high of 1.86 million.Sean Gardner, director of MoneyExpert.com, said: "Hoping for the best is not much of a financial strategy when the going gets tough and it is worrying that so many people are literally on the brink of financial meltdown if they were to lose their job."He added: "Being in debt is sustainable if you have an income and a means of paying off loans and credit cards."
