Npower fined £1.8 million over the doorstep selling tactics

Those in the UK who have had the pleasure of a visit from doorstep energy supply salespeople will this evening appreciate a £1.8 million fine which is being charged against UK leader Npower. The company is charged with not taking swift action after a number of customers complained about the tactics which were being used by doorstep sellers. This has been a problem in the UK energy market for sometime and Npower is not the only culprit to have been caught up in regulatory investigations.

The mis-selling fine should act as a warning to the other UK energy providers at a time when customers are looking elsewhere but often unaware of the underlying terms and conditions of any potential switch agreements. There are cases of customers signing up on specific terms and conditions only to find these have changed in a very short space of time and what looked like a good move may not be as it seems.

Claims of "dirty tricks" in the industry have been rife for sometime but only recently has the UK regulator taken serious action against those alleged culprits. There are hopes that this will be the top of the market with regards to such instances put consumers and regulators will be keeping a close eye on the situation.
