Even the National Lottery is struggling!
Yesterday's national lottery draw, which was expected to yield a £4.2 million jackpot, was hit by a serious technical glitch which saw a number of outlets throughout the UK unable to log on and sell tickets for the draw. Even the website was down for much of the day as consumers struggled to place their "favourite numbers" and tempers began to flare.
Despite the technical glitch, which was still being addressed yesterday evening, the draw still went ahead and one lucky winner is this morning £3.1 million better off. However, with many players unable to place their regular numbers a small number may well this morning be devastated to see their chance of claiming a chunk of the jackpot disappear. Last night's draw had been expected to be the largest of the year as, together with the New Year draw, Christmas is a very popular time for the purchase of lottery tickets.
However, while the eventual winner of the National Lottery may well be just over £1.1 million down on initial expectations there will have been a massive loss of income for the "worthwhile causes" at this time of great need. Quite what happened to the national lottery system remains a mystery but there will likely be some kind of investigation in due course.
