The free broadband revolution that will cost you!
The UK government has this week announced plans to roll out broadband across the UK and ensure that families from low-income backgrounds have access to such services. This proposed substantial rollout of broadband has been welcomed across the board although as ever the devil is again in the detail.
While the government has been very proactive of late on the broadband front it now appears that the move will cost each and every taxpayer in the UK £50 which adds up to a substantial investment of taxpayer's money. Yet again there are concerns that business in the UK will benefit to a greater extent than the UK population, even though the move is being funded by the UK taxpayer.
This is just the latest in a long line of government announcements regarding broadband although surprisingly we have yet to see any real progress on any of the historic statements. It would appear that repeating historic statements, rehashing historic schemes and effectively announcing the same moves time and time again is starting to wear thin with the UK population. Results are what matter and at this moment in time a high-speed broadband network across the UK seems further away than ever before.
