Amazon set to launch online grocery store

In a move away from its core business it has been revealed that Amazon, the largest online retailer the world, is looking to set up an online UK grocery store in the very near future. While details are fairly thin on the ground at the moment it would appear that the constant erosion of the company's core business by the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury and other superstores in the UK has prompted this move. It will be interesting to see how the likes of Tesco react to what could well turn out to be a very strong competitor in the online retail market.

There are high hopes that consumers will benefit from this increased competition and many experts in the retail sector believe this could well be payback time for the aggressive growth strategies of the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury. The main supermarkets in the UK have severely impacted upon the local shopping sector in many areas of the country with many local grocery shops unable to compete and often forced out of business.

If Amazon does decide to go ahead with the online grocery business this will create the biggest challenge to the UK retailing giants for many years.
