Keep a close eye on your finances
If you were to sit down at this very moment in time and write down the assets which you hold, bank balances, mortgage balances and other financial investments you may have, would you be able to do it?
The chances are that the vast majority of people in the UK, and possibly around the world, would not be able to produce a list of their assets at any specific time because the fact is many of us do not follow them. How many times have you looked at your bank balance and been surprised how little, or if you're lucky, how much more you had than you actually thought? How many times have you been shocked at the drop in the value of your investments?
Do you actually know the level of insurance premiums you pay for your car? Do you know how much you pay for your house insurance? Do you actually know what cover you are paying for?
While some people may choose to hold their financial affairs on a spreadsheet, which will automatically total their assets in a split second, there is no need to go this far as a simple book to remind you should suffice. If you do not keep an eye on your financial affairs how can you expect to keep control of them?
