Npower finally gives in to pricing pressure
Npower has finally relented and agreed to reduce electricity prices by around 8% at the end of March this year. The reduction will translate into a saving of around £43 for each and every customer in the UK but unfortunately there has been no change in the gas tariff as yet. The company is the last of the big 6 to commit to reduced prices although this is six months after Npower increased electricity prices by 14%.
As the economic situation in the UK worsens it would appear that much of the heat has been taken off the energy suppliers with the banks taking more headlines. However, UK consumers are still very much feeling the pressure of increased energy bills and significant numbers are still unable to pay these increased charges. If you cast your mind back some time ago to the period when prices started to increase, many of the energy companies in the UK appeared to tie themselves to the price of oil. However, when the price of oil started to fall they then moved to highlight the wholesale prices in the worldwide energy market and issues such as the Russian pipeline sage. It appears as though they have an excuse for every possible situation!
