Norwich Union disappears and Aviva takes over
While effectively the name of Norwich Union began to disappear many years ago, today marks a definitive point in the history of this well-known insurance company, which will disappear altogether. Having operated as a subsidiary of Aviva, the former CGNU insurance conglomerate, Norwich Union will be no more after today as the rebranding exercise reaches the end of the road.
While there have been significant changes in the UK insurance sector over the last few years this is the first real casualty of a well known brand name. Many of the larger brand names in the UK have been taken over although more often than not they have continued under their original name as a subsidiary of their parent company. Companies such as Aviva have spent literally millions upon millions of pounds in a rebranding exercise and it must be certain that the Norwich Union name will now be associated with Aviva.
On the subject of insurance companies, they have appeared to escape fairly unscathed from the ongoing UK recession and the reduction in property and stock market investments. However, many analysts are looking towards the next set of results for an indication of the immediate future and the financial stability of the sector.
