Is the NHS under threat?
The NHS is the hot topic of the moment after two Tory MPs criticised the setup of the UK NHS system compared to the US health care regime. This has caused great embarrassment for David Cameron, leader of the Conservative party, and opened a debate which could play a significant role in the forthcoming general election. It is a debate which the Labour Party will use to try and overshadow everything else with claims, by none other than Lord Mandelson, that David Cameron is against the NHS in private yet for the NHS in public.
The subject of health insurance is also one which will soon hit the headlines as concerned consumers up and down the UK look to protect themselves and their families for the future. The truth is the NHS has been around for decades and is highly likely to be around for some time to come but probably in another shape and form.
The truth is that under the Labour and Conservative parties the NHS has changed dramatically over the last 20 or 30 years amid concerns that it is taking too much of the national budget with new management levels and increasing costs taking a lion's share of the NHS budget. A debate is probably required regarding the NHS and the future form it will take.
