Diabetes and Life Insurance
Life insurance policies for diabetics can be hard to obtain but they are still available.
A major factor in the cost of obtaining a life insurance policy is how well an individual's condition is managed. With good blood glucose control, a healthy and active lifestyle and few complications, finding a good deal is achievable.
Diabetes falls into two major categories: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 diabetes can generally be controlled through diet and exercise whilst Type 1 is controlled through insulin therapy. It is, however, worth remembering that there are Life Insurance options available to both.
It is important to know and understand as much as possible about your condition and to display control of this to insurers. The more control that you can demonstrate then the lower the risk insurers will perceive you to be.
Diet plays an important part in managing diabetes and it may be worth seeking the advice of a nutritionist to help with this. Similarly, having a good exercise routine will also help in managing diabetes. However, remember that diet and exercise alone will not fully manage the condition in some cases.
It is a good idea to try the different medications recommended by your Doctor that can help to manage diabetes. In addition to diabetes, sufferers may also have difficulty with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Therefore in order to keep control of your diabetes, you should also try to keep these at a satisfactory level.
Insurers tend to have an idea for their ideal insurance candidate so it is important to;
· Approach insurers in a positive way
· Be in control of your diabetes
· Be otherwise fit and healthy
· Provide information that demonstrates you are a lower risk than they perceive
It is essential to look at the whole life insurance market and to seek the advice of an insurance agent with extensive experience of dealing with diabetes life insurance. Remember that it is worth being resilient in the search as life insurance policies can be found for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
