Identity theft, the threat is real and here!
It is becoming more and more apparent that criminal gangs are targeting the UK and identity theft is becoming more and more of an issue in both the consumer and business markets. We recently saw tens of thousands of Hotmail accounts farmed using bogus websites, call centres infiltrated by criminal gangs and the traditional skimming off credit cards continues to increase. Are you taking sufficient steps to secure your own identity?
The sooner that people in UK understand that ID theft is here and it is here to stay the quicker we will be to attack the issue head-on. Millions upon millions of people in the UK still seem to believe that ID theft is something which will happen to somebody else and not them, when in reality each and every person in the UK is a potential target. Whether you are paying with your credit card at the local petrol station, contacting a call centre, replying to a "spam" e-mail or any other example of "farming" you are literally putting yourself at risk.
If you are paying by credit card it is essential that your card remains in full view while payment details are taken. However, the main area of concern for the future is those receiving spoof e-mails which can direct you towards fake websites where your login and password information for various services can be collected. Be careful!
