Abbey issues tips for flood-risk homeowners
Homeowners who fear they are risk of flooding in the event of a repeat of this week's storms can ensure their safety by following a series of simple tips, it has been claimed. Abbey Insurance this week confirmed that as a result of the deluges it has received the highest number of calls regarding home insurance since the summer. In response, the home insurance provider has issued a set of practical steps to be followed which can help to ensure both personal safety and minimise the damage to your home in the event of a flood. Among the advice is being aware of how to turn off the water and electricity supply, keeping a torch to hand and storing essential phone numbers in a mobile phone in the event that telephone service is cut off. Also recommended by the firm is storing a copy of insurance documents in a water tight container and ensuring the telephone number of the relevant provider is kept in a safe and accessible place.
