Car vandalism survey reveals surprising results

A new study into car vandalism conducted by AA Personal Loans has yielded some surprising results for motorists. Traditionally, dimly lit multi-storey car parks are thought of as the places where cars are most likely to fall victim to vandals. However, in the poll of 2,000 drivers just ten per cent said that their car was damaged by vandals in this type of location. Conversely, and somewhat surprisingly the lion's share of those polled - some 43 per cent - said that their car was parked in a residential street when the damage happened. Mark Huggens, head of personal loans at AA, said that the findings highlighted the importance of "thinking about where you park" and issued some tips to help minimise the chance of damage. He said: "Although it's not always possible to park off road at home, try to park in a well-lit spot and take simple precautions like folding in the side mirrors to reduce the risk of them being knocked off. "It's also worth investing in a visible theft deterrent such as a steering wheel clamp. And never, ever leave anything valuable on show in it."
