Should you pay management fees to your stock market adviser?
The subject of investment fees is one which often attracts much criticism and praise in equal measures with more and more people around the UK looking for greater and greater value for money. The growth in the Internet has also offered a different route, often cheaper, to those who have knowledge of UK investment markets and are willing to make their own decisions often without professional advice.
However, for those who have little or no knowledge of the UK investment market, and the UK stock market in particular, the subject of management fees will at some point rear its head. The truth is that professional advisers do have costs associated with their services and ultimately it is up to you whether you are willing to pay someone to look after your funds. If you have little or no knowledge there are greater risks associated with "going it alone" because very often what you read in the press is yesterday's news. You are paying your adviser to look ahead and look forward to the future and ultimately they will be rewarded upon results, as you are free to move away at any time.
This is very much a situation of "horses for courses" although you need to ensure that the fees you are being charged are competitive and ultimately offer value for money if you go down this route.
