Financing your small business dreams

While the small business sector in the UK has taken a real hammering over the last 18 months we are still seeing a number of small business ideas hit the market. However, as with those in the property market, entrepreneurs looking to finance their small business operations are finding a similar problem with significantly reduced liquidity in the market place. So what next?

The fact is that if your idea is good enough there will, at some stage, be investors willing to take a chance on you. Whether funds eventually come from the mainstream banks, private investors or pooled investment funds looking for alternative ideas remains to be seen. However, there is no doubt that the UK as a whole is still very much a small business arena, complimented by an array of large operations, and finance will always be available for the better ideas.

Gordon Brown, during his 10 years in power, has been very vocal in his support of UK small businesses although unfortunately many small-business owners would suggest that red tape over the last decade has strangled many operations. Increased taxes, tighter regulations and a reduction in liquidity in the short to medium term don't look good for the UK small business arena but there are hopes for the long-term future of the sector.
