Moody's warns of problems in UK brewing sector
Credit rating agency Moody's has confirmed that the bleak outlook for the UK pub sector could continue for some time to come with many of the U.K.'s biggest pub owners facing significant cash flow issues as debts continue to mount and business levels continue to tail off. So how will this impact upon the UK pub sector in the short to medium term?
Even though the rate of pub closures in the UK has slowed over the last few weeks we are still seeing significant numbers closing each and every week. While there are a number of factors to consider with regards to this bleak outlook for the UK pub sector, in essence it seems as though the cost of opening and running a public house has grown enormously over the last few years while business continues to fall, with UK supermarkets grabbing more and more market share.
When you also throw in the fact that governments north and south of the border are looking to bring in various restrictive trade regulations for the pub industry to reduce binge drinking and excessive alcohol intake, the authorities have been far from helpful. Are we set to see the UK pub sector fall by the wayside?
