Cadbury on bid alert
With Monday's deadline fast approaching, by which point Kraft Foods will either need to make a formal offer for Cadbury or walk away for six months, there is a feeling that Cadbury has the support of investors if a "low bid" was to emerge. The initial informal offer from Kraft Foods was pitched at around £7.45 a share and there is a suspicion the company will increase its offer only slightly.
With Cadbury shares currently valued at just under £7.60 there is a feeling that a bid of around eight pounds would be successful but anything between £7.60 and eight pounds would be a risky move. There is a Cadbury board meeting scheduled for Monday as the company seems almost certain that an offer will be made although at what level remains to be seen. Whether the two parties can in some way communicate over the weekend to reach a "fair price" is debatable because they have left it rather late in the day.
All eyes will be on the Cadbury share price on Monday although we will almost certainly hear some news over the weekend, even if not by official sources. The endgame is approaching but unfortunately at this moment in time nobody is sure how the situation will pan out.
