National Savings certificates are 'risk-free investment'

National Savings certificates offer investors a guaranteed return and are an ideal investment opportunity at this time of financial instability, a financial advisor has claimed. According to Jason Butler, a partner at Bloomsbury Financial Planning, the certificates represent a risk-free investment and are consequently highly recommended amid projections of financial turbulence in 2008. He said: "Fixed Interest Savings Certificates are lump sum investments that earn guaranteed rates of interest over set periods of time, called 'terms'. "They're free of UK Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax, whatever rate you normally pay. You don't even need to declare the interest on your tax return."Mr Butler did not however recommend that investors opt for alternative investments at this period in time. He said: "You've got to differentiate between liquid portfolios and things like antiques and fine wine. I've got a fine wine cellar I've been building up over the last couple of years, [but] I'm not buying it as an investment, I'm buying it because I want to drink it!"
