Bill Gates, The End Of An Era
After 33 years at the helm of Microsoft, Bill Gates will finally hand over day to day control on the 27th June this year. While he will still continue to work one day a week for the company and retain his position as board chairman, the day to day running of Microsoft will be firmly in the hands of Steve Ballmer the group’s Chief Executive.
Ballmer has been at Microsoft for some time and worked very closely with Bill Gates, but there have been ups and downs in the relationship between the two, something which many believe was behind the decision by Gates to quit the company he founded. Landscapes are changing, the internet is becoming more of a challenge to Microsoft and it appears that Ballmer may be more experienced in this particular field to fight the fight.
While Bill Gates is stepping back to concentrate on his charitable interests there is no doubt that he has been one of the major forces in the computer industry for many years. His name will go down in history as the man that changed the landscape of the industry and brought PCs, laptops and the internet to the masses. However, it seems that changing times make for changing faces.
