Why Do So Few Woman Reach The Top In Business?

Just over a decade ago there was a major push to install woman in some of the more powerful positions in the UK from MPs to police, from FTSE100 company directors to the legal system but where has it all gone wrong?

A report today suggests that not only are woman less well paid than their male counter parts for the same job but there are actually fewer woman in positions of power. While there has been a rise in woman in the FTSE100 company boardrooms we have seen a reduction in the number of woman MPs, judges, assembly members of Wales and Scotland, media leaders and the House of Lords. So what has happened?

While woman are still fighting for equal pay ranks with their male counterparts it seems that the promotion of woman in positions of power has been overlooked. It was once fashionable to be seen to offer equality to both sexes but this fad has somewhat reduced and many companies and associations have moved back to type.

The alarming thing is that we are seeing more and more employment tribunals upholding claims of discrimination on the subject of gender but few companies seem to be taking notice. Unless these companies sit up and take notice now they to could be on the end of a whole barrage of heavy compensation claims!
