This is a term used to describe a market which is moving higher and one where the mood is one of a positive nature. Bull markets can last anything from a couple of years to decades in extreme circumstances.

Bear market

This is the exact opposite of a Bull market and used to describe a market in which the trend is downwards and the mood is one of fear and caution. Again, the length of a Bear market can vary in line with a Bull market.
