Scottish parliament rejects Lloyds TSB takeover of HBOS
In a move which is effectively worthless because of the fact that the takeover is going through it has been confirmed that the Scottish parliament voted to reject the merger and demanded that Gordon Brown gives HBOS access to the £37 billion rescue fund which had actually been put aside for the combined entity.
Yet again we see that the Scottish parliament is at loggerheads with its UK paymaster and there is a strong suspicion that this latest publicity stunt is purely for the voting public in Scotland. There is actually no way that the merger would be blocked by the Scottish contingent and that many seem to be forgetting the fact that without Lloyds bank the HBOS operation would have been under government control today.
The rift between the Scottish parliament and UK Parliament has widened dramatically over the last few months as demands for more and more public funds from the Scottish parliament continue to fall on deaf ears. It appears that there will be no more additional assistance from the UK taxpayer as a whole until the two parties are able to find some common ground from which they can begin constructive talks.
