Are Microsoft and Yahoo back in talks?

After seemingly falling out forever it would appear that Microsoft and Yahoo are back in merger talks with a number of financial publications picking up on the rumour. This is a long-running saga which has been going on for many many months and one which many suggested was dead. However, it would appear that a mixture of the need for the parties to combat Google as well as a possible slowdown on the Internet and Internet income may be behind the move.

The companies have yet to confirm they are back in discussions and even if they are there is no guarantee of the outcome. There have been calls for some time for the two to join together as there appears to be no other possible competition on the horizon for Google. Whether the joint management team can actually instigate some kind of new business plan to attract more users and customers, taking away vital income from Google, very much remains to be seen.

Long-suffering shareholders in the two groups will be encouraged by the rumours although as many will confirm, they had been here a number of times before. Watch this space..
